Investment trust scams and clone firms
Investment fraud happens when people try to trick you into investing money or making a financial transaction. They might want you to invest money in shares, bonds, notes, commodities, currency or even real estate. A scammer may lie to you or give you fake information about a real investment. Or they may make up a fake investment opportunity.

Clone investment firms
Fraudsters sometimes say they work for genuine, authorised firms. One of these involves pretending to be from firms authorised by the FCA, termed a clone firm.
Always check the FCA financial services register to find out if a firm is authorised.
Artemis is aware of an instance where a fraudulent firm with the same name was used, dating from 2014. You can find out more information about this on the FCA website.
Also check our general security information for details of Artemis' authorised companies.
