What are the security and identification requirements to invest?

As part of opening an investment account directly with Artemis, making or changing investments, or closing an account, a number of mandatory security and identification requirements are in place to help verify investors’ details and protect their money and privacy, which this page explains.

Security and identification processes are in place to protect our investors’ information and their investments. The processes are also legal requirements under the UK’s Money Laundering (AML) Regulations.

To open an account with Artemis

To start investing with Artemis, we may request a combination of the following documents from you. If requested, all verification documents must be sent by post and must contain your full legal name and date of birth.

Evidence of identity

Documents we can accept as evidence of identity are:

  • Valid passport
  • Valid photo card driving licence (full or provisional)
  • Valid national identity card (for non-UK residents), but note that the same document cannot be used as evidence of both identity and address

Evidence of address

Documents we can accept as evidence of residential address are:

  • Bank account, credit card statement or investment statement issued by a regulated financial sector firm in the UK or EU equivalent
  • Utility bill
  • Valid photo card driving licence (full or provisional), provided it has not also been used to satisfy the photographic identity requirement above
  • Correspondence from local authorities

  • Correspondence from any government body
  • Confirmation of address from a financial institution

Please note: all documentation must reflect the current residential address and must be dated within the previous three months, other than in the case of an official government document known to be issued only or typically at fixed intervals of more than three months, in which case such document may be accepted during that period, up to a maximum of 12 months (eg council tax statement).

  • A Notary Public
